Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Morocco on reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Africa.
Morocco secured a place in the last eight after defeating Canada 3-0 in their Round of 16 encounter, becoming the first African nation to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2026 tournament.

He congratulated the Atlas Lions on what he described as a deserved victory over Canada, adding that the team’s performance had inspired the continent and reinforced Africa’s place in world football.
“Congratulations to Morocco on a deserved 3-0 victory over Canada and on becoming the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“You have once again lifted the hopes of an entire continent and reminded the world that African football belongs on the biggest stage,” Atiku said.
Morocco’s latest achievement further strengthens its reputation as one of Africa’s leading football nations. The North African side had already made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by becoming the first African and Arab country to reach the tournament’s semi-finals.
