Thunderstorms and strong winds have killed at least eight people and injured 275 in central China, state media said Tuesday.
The severe convective weather system battered major cities, including Huangshi and Huanggang, where localised tornadoes left one person missing and forced emergency crews to evacuate hundreds of residents.
Meanwhile, in the southern region of Guangxi, heavy rains and severe flooding from Typhoon Maysak claimed two additional lives and displaced at least 48,000 people.
In the southern capital of Nanning, officials raised the flood control emergency response to its highest level after torrential downpours breached local reservoirs.

Broadcast footage showed muddy torrents rushing through crumbled concrete dams, partially submerging homes and vehicles across the region.
Rescue teams deployed inflatable boats, life vests, and helmets to search for trapped residents as scientists warn that greenhouse gas emissions will continue to increase the frequency and intensity of these extreme global weather events.
