Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the Oriire schoolchildren and teachers at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are receiving treatment after being rescued by security operatives.

The victims were abducted by gunmen on May 15, 2026, and spent more than 50 days in captivity before regaining their freedom.

The Nigerian Government announced their rescue on Friday, with the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, saying security agencies had successfully secured the release of all the captives.
In a post on his social media page after the visit, Makinde said the state government would continue to provide the support needed for the victims’ full recovery and reunite them with their families.

The governor also paid tribute to civilians and military personnel who lost their lives during the rescue efforts, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten. He prayed for the repose of their souls and extended condolences to their families.

‘Earlier today, we visited the victims of the Oriire LGA kidnapping incident where they are receiving treatment in Ibadan. We will continue to provide the necessary support needed for their full recovery and reunite them with their families,” Makinde said.
“We also remember civilians and military personnel who lost their lives during this process, our administration will ensure that they did not die in vain. May their souls rest in peace and may God continue to comfort their families,” he added.
