Troops of Operation Hadin Kai and an ONSA tactical team have killed more than 21 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Adamawa State.

The operation took place on Thursday in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area.

Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He said the joint force, which included newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion, conducted the operation based on credible intelligence.

Despite the difficult terrain, the troops entered the area and launched a precision attack on the terrorists’ camp in the early hours of Thursday.

Goni said the operation was part of efforts to locate and rescue victims abducted by terrorists, including people taken from the Mussa community in May and Lassa schoolchildren kidnapped in June.

The troops engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters, killing more than 21 while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The troops later took control of the area, dismantled the camp and destroyed its logistics facilities.

Several motorcycles, bicycles and jerry cans containing Premium Motor Spirit believed to have supported the terrorists’ movement and logistics were also destroyed. The troops recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Goni said the operation showed the troops’ ability to conduct intelligence-led operations and deploy combat power in difficult terrain.

The Military High Command commended the ONSA Tactical Team and Operation Hadin Kai troops for their gallantry, professionalism and coordination. It also reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing terrorist groups and destroying their camps and logistics networks across the North-East.

The Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, said intelligence-driven operations would continue until abducted persons are rescued and terrorist strongholds dismantled.
