Pakistan has condemned the latest attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Houthi movement and reaffirmed its support for the Kingdom.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the attacks as a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and warned that they could further destabilise the Middle East.

Pakistan strongly condemns the blatant attacks carried out against the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last night,” Sharif said.

The statement followed claims by Yemen’s Houthi movement that it launched missiles at Abha International Airport in south-western Saudi Arabia on Monday in response to air strikes on Sanaa International Airport, which the group blamed on the Kingdom.

The Iran-backed Houthis, who control much of north-western Yemen, had earlier accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out “blatant aggression”, alleging that it targeted the runway at Sanaa airport.

Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia, saying the country stood “in complete solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at this critical time.”

He also pledged Pakistan’s continued support for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions across the region.

“On its part, Pakistan will continue to support all sincere efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, security, and mutual understanding across the region,” the statement read.

Pakistan has long maintained close diplomatic, economic and security ties with Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom is one of Islamabad’s closest regional partners, providing financial assistance, investment and employment opportunities for millions of Pakistani expatriate workers.
