“During the incident, four students, the school principal and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers.

“A combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants. Oyiza also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, the Brigade Commander and the Kogi State Security Adviser were on their way to the scene to carry out an on-the-spot assessment.

She said the command would provide a more detailed update after further verified information becomes available.

In a separate development, the police confirmed the abduction of occupants of a vehicle transporting the body of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official, Augustine Ikwue, from Lokoja to Otukpo, Benue State, for burial.

According to the police, the attack occurred on July 9 along the Ochadamu-Ejule Expressway when armed men intercepted the vehicle and abducted its occupants into the bush.

Oyiza said a joint team comprising police officers, military personnel, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and Community Policing operatives launched a rescue operation after receiving the report.

She said the abandoned vehicle and the casket were recovered, with the casket later deposited at the Elemona Mortuary in Ejule. The police said efforts to rescue the abducted victims and arrest the suspects are ongoing.
