World champions Spain have climbed back to the top of the FIFA men’s rankings after defeating Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final.
The latest rankings, released on Monday, see Spain reclaim the number one spot they lost in April following Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in New York.
Argentina, runners-up at the tournament, drop to second, while France remain third despite losing 6-4 to England in the third-place play-off. England retain fourth place.
Brazil and Morocco each move up one place to fifth and sixth respectively, overtaking Portugal, who slip to seventh after their round-of-16 exit at the hands of eventual champions Spain.
Belgium rise one spot to eighth, moving ahead of the Netherlands, who drop to ninth.
Co-hosts Mexico climb four places to 10th, returning to the top 10 for the first time since March 2022. Germany fall two places to 12th after their World Cup elimination by Paraguay.
Among the biggest movers are Switzerland, who climb five places to 14th following their run to the quarter-finals, while Norway record the largest jump, rising 12 places to 19th after also reaching the last eight.
