The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has launched an investigation into a suspected chemical spill on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway following the appearance of a white, foamy substance at the scene of a road accident.
In a statement, the agency said officials from its Kaduna State Field Office, led by State Coordinator Hena Dangari Emmanuel, visited the affected area to assess the situation.

The team met with the Police Commander for Jere, the Federal Road Safety Corps commander for the area and the community leader as part of the investigation.
According to NESREA, preliminary findings indicate that a heavy-duty truck was involved in an accident, resulting in the spillage of its contents.
The agency said it had gathered information from relevant authorities and residents while collecting samples of the foamy substance, surrounding soil and water from a nearby stream for laboratory analysis.
NESREA advised residents to avoid contact with the substance, nearby water and surrounding soil until investigations are concluded to prevent possible exposure to hazardous materials.
The agency said the laboratory results will determine the nature of the substance and guide further action.
