Fake Doctor Nabbed Over ₦500,000 Job Scam

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, Udeme Ekpeme, for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding a woman of ₦500,000 with a false promise of securing employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect was arrested by officers attached to the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a complaint by Mrs Edemawan Samuel.

According to the police, the complainant alleged that Ekpeme falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and collected the money after promising to facilitate employment opportunities for her children at UCTH.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect used the false claim to deceive the victim into parting with the money.

Eitokpah said police recovered exhibits believed to be linked to the alleged fraud, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, AIG Rashid Afegbua, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and identify any additional victims or accomplices.

The police assured the public that the suspect would be charged to court if sufficient evidence is established and pledged to provide further updates as investigations progress.
