Russian Strikes Kill Five in Ukraine

Russian strikes across Ukraine have killed five people, according to Ukrainian authorities, as Kyiv and other regions reported continued attacks from Moscow’s forces.

One person was killed in the capital, Kyiv, where authorities said overnight strikes damaged more than 16 locations, including residential buildings and industrial facilities. The Kyiv regional administration said Russian forces were carrying out attacks “relentlessly” using strike drones.

“Sixteen sites have been damaged,” the administration said, adding that the affected locations included 12 private homes on the outskirts of Kyiv, as well as a warehouse and a production facility.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said a woman and two 16-year-olds were injured and taken to hospital following the attacks.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said three people were killed in overnight strikes in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, while another man died in Kyiv after a Russian drone attack.

Authorities in the southern Odesa region also reported a fatality following what they described as a “massive strike”. Regional governor Oleg Kiper said the attacks damaged several facilities, including a residential building, a medical institution, a hotel, a shop and a grain storage warehouse.

The latest strikes came as Ukraine prepares for another winter of war, with Russia intensifying attacks on the capital during the fifth year of its invasion.

Efforts by the United States to support negotiations to end the war have so far failed to produce a major breakthrough. The United Nations has warned of increasing civilian casualties as fighting continues.

The attacks followed comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who told the UN that Moscow intends to continue its military campaign “to the end”.

Russia’s Defence Ministry also said its forces had captured the village of Khrypuny in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region. Moscow has previously said it wants to seize the remaining parts of eastern Ukraine, particularly areas it considers strategically important.

Russia controls parts of several Ukrainian regions but does not claim Kharkiv as its territory, unlike Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, which it has declared as annexed. Ukraine and most of the international community reject those claims.
