Former adult film star Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after winning a seat in the country’s March election.

Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, will represent the Norte de Santander region under the left-wing Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 parliamentary term.

According to Colombian outlet El Tiempo, Omaña secured her position after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed list.

The Historic Pact emerged as Colombia’s strongest political bloc in the Senate election, winning 22.72 per cent of the vote, with more than 4.4 million ballots, translating to 25 seats.

Omaña, who previously worked in journalism before joining the adult entertainment industry, has defended her decision to enter politics, saying her past should not affect her ability to serve as a lawmaker. She has argued that women who have worked in the sexual economy contribute to the country and deserve legal recognition rather than discrimination.

The senator, who was born in Cúcuta, said her legislative focus will include mental health programmes and measures to address sexual abuse.

Her election has attracted significant attention in Colombia, following her earlier appointment, alongside former performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration.

Omaña’s entry into the Senate marks a major political shift and has triggered debate over representation, stigma and the role of personal history in public service.
