Hapoel Jerusalem forward Doris Boaduwaa struck early as Ghana beat WAFCON debutants Cape Verde 2-0 on Wednesday at Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

Boaduwaa put Ghana ahead just seven minutes into the Group D opener by chasing down a long pass from Portia Boakye and lobbing the ball over goalkeeper Jacinta Rodrigues.

Ghana doubled their lead in the 54th minute when an incoming cross deflected off Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira for an own goal.

Despite constant pressure from Ghana, Rodrigues made several crucial saves to prevent a heavier defeat for the tournament newcomers.

Cape Verde created their best scoring chance following the second goal when Ivania Moreira attempted a long-range shot from the centre circle, forcing a save from Ghanaian goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.
