American Brandon Nakashima and Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo stunned top seeds at the Washington Open on Friday, eliminating defending champion Alex de Minaur and second-seeded Ben Shelton.
Nakashima capitalised on key serve opportunities to defeat top seed de Minaur 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, securing a semi-final matchup against fellow American Taylor Fritz.
Meanwhile, Tabilo battled back from a set down to outlast Shelton 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, booking a semi-final clash against 19-year-old Spanish rising star Rafael Jodar, who ousted fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti.
In the WTA draw, top-seeded Jessica Pegula and third-seeded Naomi Osaka advanced safely to the semi-finals with decisive victories.

Pegula defeated Anna Kalinskaya 6-3, 7-5, setting up a clash with fourth seed Diana Shnaider.
Osaka recovered from a set down to defeat Elisabetta Cocciaretto 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. However, second seed Elina Svitolina fell to Alexandra Eala, who secured a 6-3, 6-4 win to set up a semi-final meeting with Osaka.
