The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau State, Kefas Ropshik, has called on the Nigerian Government to provide an update on President Bola Tinubu‘s directive to deploy security surveillance cameras across the state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Ropshik recalled that Tinubu announced the initiative during his visit to Plateau after the deadly attacks in April.
According to him, the President directed the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to oversee the installation of surveillance cameras across the state to improve security.
Ropshik questioned the progress made since the announcement, saying the government should be accountable for promises made to citizens.
He noted that residents deserved to know the current status of the project, stressing that transparency and accountability were essential to effective governance.
During his visit to Jos in April, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of 5,000 security cameras following attacks in the Angwan Rukuba area that claimed more than 27 lives.
The surveillance project was expected to strengthen law enforcement operations by providing technology to monitor criminal activities across the state.
Ropshik also argued that leadership should be driven by compassion and concern for citizens’ welfare, saying public officials who prioritise humanity would focus on serving the people rather than personal interests.
