Nine people have died in a road crash involving two commercial vehicles on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore axis of the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.
The accident occurred at about 4:55 pm on Monday around the Bethel area of the expressway and involved a white Toyota Hiace bus operated by Delta Line and a white Sino Truck belonging to Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
The vehicles were registered as 14B-299DT and AAB162XD respectively.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the FRSC, all nine people involved in the crash died. The victims comprised three males and six females.
The Corps said the crash occurred during rainfall, leaving the road surface wet, while preliminary investigations identified speed violation as the probable cause.
FRSC rescuers arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the report, reaching the location at about 4:58 pm.

The bodies of the victims were recovered and taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode, while the two vehicles were towed to the Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division.
“A total of nine persons, comprising three males and six females, were involved in the crash. Sadly, all nine persons were killed in the incident.
“The crash occurred while it was raining, with the road pavement wet. The road itself was paved. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation (SPV) as the probable cause of the crash.
“The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the report, arriving at 1658hrs.
“The deceased victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles involved were towed to the Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police MTD.”
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise greater caution while driving in rainy conditions.
He advised drivers to observe speed limits, maintain adequate following distances and avoid manoeuvres that could put other road users at risk.
Ogunjobi also warned that speeding on wet roads increases the risk of losing control, as reduced tyre grip and visibility can make it harder for motorists to stop or manoeuvre safely.
The FRSC condoled with the families of the victims and urged motorists to prioritise road safety.
