Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed confidence in winning the ongoing governorship election after casting his ballot at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.
Adeleke arrived at the polling unit at about 8:32 a.m. on Saturday, accompanied by supporters. He was accredited by the Presiding Officer at 8:35 a.m. before proceeding to cast his vote.
Speaking shortly after voting, the governor said he was optimistic about the election outcome and urged residents to participate actively in the democratic process. He said the election gives the people of Osun the opportunity to decide who will lead the state for the next four years, calling on voters to protect their votes from the polling unit through the collation process.
“The people of Osun have the opportunity to decide who governs them for the next four years. I encourage everyone to come out, vote and ensure their votes count,” Adeleke said.
The governor also appealed for calm, urging voters and political actors to remain peaceful and comply with electoral guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He encouraged voters to stay at their polling units to observe the process, while warning against any attempt to interfere with the exercise.
However, Adeleke said he had received information that a police officer planned to disrupt the election in Ede. He called on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and remove the officer from the state.
“We also received information about our supporters being scared away in Modakeke and some areas in the state by some police officers to disenfranchise them,” he said.
The governor also cautioned voters to be vigilant over reports of possible fake ballot papers being used at some polling units.
Despite the allegations, Adeleke expressed confidence that the election would be peaceful, credible and reflect the will of Osun residents.
