Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election. Adeleke arrived at his Polling Unit 009 in Ede North Local Government Area to cast his vote on Saturday.
Speaking at the polling unit, Adeleke urged Ede residents to remain vigilant, alleging that some people were planning to bypass the prescribed collation process by moving results directly from polling units to the collation centre.
He insisted that the results must follow the established process from the polling unit to the ward and then the local government.
Adeleke said he was alerting his supporters to watch out for any attempt to violate the electoral process, expressing confidence that he would win the election.
“I have it on the authority of information that they don’t want to go through the normal process of from unit to ward to local government… they want to just take it all the way to the collation centre… that is not acceptable.
“They must follow the rules, and that is why I am alerting my people to watch out,” he said.
He added that he believed he would emerge victorious “by the special grace of God.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) earlier said that more than 1.9 million voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the election.
Thirteen candidates are contesting the election after two of the 15 candidates initially cleared by INEC withdrew from the race on Friday.
Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, faces challenges from All Progressives Congress.(APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam.
Adeleke’s administration has accused opposition figures and security personnel of attacking and intimidating Accord members, allegations that have been denied by APC figures.
