Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that fellow Nigerian singer Wande Coal has been seeking his attention for about a year.
Davido said this during an interview on News Central’s Take 3 on Tuesday, after comments he made about a song recorded with Wande Coal went viral online.
“He’s been looking for my attention for some reason. I don’t know,” Davido said.
“He even asked for my number two weeks ago and I told them not to give him, so he’s just acting like a baby. He’ll be fine. He has somebody to take care of him.”
Davido said his earlier comments about Wande Coal were not intended to disparage the singer, explaining that the disagreement centred on how a song they recorded together should be released.
“I just said we recorded a song as an original song,” he said.
According to Davido, Wande Coal wanted to release the song as a remix, but he disagreed with the proposal.
“I didn’t record the song as a remix and he wanted to drop it as a remix. So I was like, no, I don’t want us to do that,” he said.

Davido maintained that he had also acknowledged that a remix could have been a good idea.
“But if you listen to the interview, I was like, but it would have been nice. That’s how I ended it,” he said.
He said the controversy had been amplified because of his profile in the Nigerian music industry.
“But you know, the whole industry, they always rush to get to David,” Davido said.
Despite the disagreement, Davido said he had long admired Wande Coal and regarded him as one of the artists he looked up to while growing up.
“I’ve known Wande. Wande was one of the artists I was, you know, growing up, you know, looked up to,” he said.
Davido said he did not believe his comments constituted an attack on Wande Coal.
“I didn’t even say nothing bad,” he said.
He, however, refused to comment on his relationship with fellow Nigerian musician Wizkid.
