A shallow magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck a mountainous rural district in China’s central Qinghai province early Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The epicentre was located 269 kilometres southeast of Dunhuang at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Meanwhile, the China Earthquake Networks Centre recorded the tremor at magnitude 5.6, as reported by the state media outlet Xinhua.
