The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied receiving or confirming any report about the alleged sale of kidneys in the Nyanya area of Abuja, following claims circulating on social media.
The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the publications alleged that young people living around Nyanya had sold their kidneys for money.
The reports also claimed that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was buying kidneys from young people.
“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” Adeh said.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to disregard the claims and refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause “unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension” among residents.
Adeh also urged anyone with information about the alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern in the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station.
