Union Action Disrupts Flights in Lagos, Abuja

Air Peace has confirmed that its flight operations have been temporarily disrupted after aviation unions barricaded departure terminals in Lagos and Abuja, the airline said on Tuesday.

The picketing by the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, and the Trade Union Congress has blocked access to:

Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu Terminals) in Lagos.
Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos.
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal in Abuja.

Air Peace said the blockade had prevented scheduled flights from departing, noting that “passengers scheduled to travel across our network have been significantly affected by the disruption to flight operations.”

“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control,” Air Peace wrote in a statement.

The airline also noted that passengers scheduled to travel later on Tuesday were being contacted and provided with relevant updates as the situation evolves.

It stated that it would continue to monitor developments and provide further updates as necessary.

The industrial action began on Tuesday, with union members protesting over issues related to Air Peace employees’ right to join the union, according to sources.
