The Presidents of Egypt and Palestine have discussed efforts to coordinate ceasefire initiatives for Gaza and promote a political solution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met on Wednesday and agreed to intensify political coordination and consultations at all levels on developments in the Palestinian territories and the wider region.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.
He said Egypt would continue working with mediators to implement the agreement reached at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025 to end the war in Gaza.
Al-Sisi also urged all parties to uphold the agreement by ending escalation, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and creating conditions for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.
He reiterated Egypt’s opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians or actions that undermine their national cause.
The Egyptian president also expressed support for the Palestinian National Authority and stressed the importance of building consensus among Palestinian factions.
Abbas, in turn, commended Egypt’s efforts to protect Palestinian rights and pursue a fair and lasting resolution to the conflict.
He also acknowledged Egypt’s longstanding role as a key supporter and mediator in efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue.
During the meeting, Abbas briefed al-Sisi on recent developments in the Palestinian territories, including what he described as the worsening situation in the West Bank, which he attributed to Israeli occupation policies.
