Ngetich Breaks Half-Marathon World Record

Kenyan runner Agnes Ngetich broke the women-only half-marathon world record by one second on Sunday, winning the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen with a time of 1:05:15.

The 25-year-old runner took the lead from the start and dominated the race, crossing the finish line 50 seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Veronica Loleo.

Ngetich broke the previous women-only mark set by Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships.

The victory marks Ngetich’s latest major triumph this year, following her victories at the World Cross Country Championships in January and the team half-marathon title in Copenhagen.

While Ngetich now holds the women-only record alongside her 10 km world record from last year, Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey retains the overall women’s half-marathon record of 1:02:52 set in a mixed-gender race in 2021.
