Samba-Mayela Receives Provisional Doping Ban

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended French 100m hurdler Cyrena Samba-Mayela after she failed to properly notify anti-doping officials of her whereabouts.

The temporary ban took effect on September 18, putting the 2024 Olympic silver medallist at risk of a two-year suspension.

Strict anti-doping regulations require elite athletes to submit daily location and time slots to accommodate unannounced testing during training and travel.

Under World Anti-Doping Code rules, committing three whereabouts violations—such as missing a scheduled test or filing inaccurate location details—within 12 months triggers disciplinary action.

A representative for the 25-year-old athlete confirmed the ongoing administrative procedure while emphasising that Samba-Mayela has never failed a drug test.

Clarifying that the investigation centres strictly on filing requirements rather than banned substance use, her representative stated that Samba-Mayela continues to cooperate fully with authorities and will refrain from further public comment while the case proceeds.
