Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the country’s new proposal to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz was coordinated with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Pezeshkian made the comments in an interview with United States broadcaster CBS, excerpts of which were released by Iranian state news agency IRNA on Saturday.
He said Iran would fulfil its commitments if the United States accepted the proposal and met its own obligations.
“Coordination with the leader of the revolution (the supreme leader)… has been carried out,” Pezeshkian said.
“If the US accepts it and fulfils its obligations, we will do the same, and there will be no issue in this regard,” he added.
Pezeshkian said a six-member Iranian team had been holding discussions on the plan and had the authority to make decisions.
The team includes representatives from the military, parliament and government, he said.
The Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil shipments, remains a key point of contention in the nearly seven-month conflict between Iran and the United States.
Washington has not publicly responded to Iran’s latest proposal, although reports indicate that US President Donald Trump has rejected the plan, which calls for an end to hostilities across the Middle East.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the conditions contained in the proposal are based on those outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States in June.
The proposed conditions include the release of at least $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran.
