French Strike to Disrupt Air Travel on Tuesday

Air travellers in France should expect delays and cancellations on Tuesday as a nationwide public-sector strike prompts authorities to restrict flights at some major airports.

France’s civil aviation authority (DGAC) said on Monday evening that airlines would be required to cut services by five per cent at Paris Charles de Gaulle, the country’s busiest airport, and by 25 per cent at Marseille-Provence airport.

The restrictions at Charles de Gaulle will apply from 7 am to 8 pm local time, while the cuts at Marseille-Provence will run from 4 pm until midnight.

The DGAC said the measures were intended to limit disruption and ensure the safety of air operations.

The authority also warned of possible disruptions at airports in Nantes, Strasbourg, Limoges, Tarbes-Lourdes and Pau, urging passengers to confirm their flight status with their airlines before travelling.

The disruption comes as public-sector unions stage nationwide demonstrations over a proposed pay freeze for civil servants.

The unions are seeking to increase pressure on the government ahead of the budget announcement.
