Tinubu Returns to Lagos for Strategic Meetings

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has ended his working vacation in France and returned to Lagos, where he is expected to hold strategic meetings ahead of the 2027 elections.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, and his aircraft is expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later on Tuesday.

The President left Abuja on August 30 for a working vacation; he spent one week in London before travelling to Paris. The Presidency said Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the late Chief MKO Abiola.

On October 1, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, which will take place at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.

The President is also expected to meet political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos.

“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement read.

Tinubu’s working vacation in France included a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. The group has interests in media and digital businesses, including Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group; then on Tuesday, Tinubu also met with First Holdings Chairman Femi Otedola.

Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World. The agreement covers the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and also includes plans for a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.

The Presidency said DP World, one of the world’s leading ports and logistics operators, plans to invest $7 billion in the project, and Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after completing his political engagements in Lagos.

Recall that Abiola won the June 1993 presidential election and became a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
