The National Football League (NFL) suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 on Friday following his August arrest on vice charges in Ohio.
Police in East Palestine detained York after he responded to an advertisement on a known prostitution website to arrange sexual activity at a mobile home park.
Authorities later reduced his charges to misdemeanour disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools, leading York to plead no contest and pay a $1,150 fine.

Although York resolved the legal charges, his conduct violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy, triggering league sanctions.
The NFL clarified that York had already self-imposed a leave of absence during the team’s first three regular-season games, counting them toward his six-game ban.

Consequently, the 46-year-old executive will serve the remaining half of his suspension and can return to team operations on Tuesday, October 20.
York, who also holds ownership stakes in English soccer club Leeds United and Scottish side Rangers, issued a statement apologising to his family, team staff, players, and fans.
He acknowledged his inexcusable mistake, taking full responsibility for his actions while expressing a commitment to regaining the trust of the organisation and its supporters over time.
