Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has acquired Spanish football club CD Eldense, expanding his growing investments in the sport.

Eldense announced the ownership change in an official statement on X on Thursday.

The club said Messi has completed the acquisition and will oversee its next phase. However, the transaction still requires approval from Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD).

Eldense said Messi’s arrival marks a new chapter in the club’s more than 100-year history, which was founded in 1921. The Spanish club aims to strengthen its sporting, institutional and social development under the new ownership. Eldense also plans to build on its history and preserve its blue-and-red identity.

The move makes Eldense the second Spanish club owned by Messi. The Argentine superstar previously owned UE Cornellà. His latest investment is expected to increase Eldense’s international profile and support its sporting and commercial ambitions.

Messi has increasingly expanded his role in football beyond playing, adding club ownership to his business interests. The former Barcelona and Argentina captain remains one of the sport’s most influential figures.
