The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the Commission has announced a new nationwide online voter registration exercise.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, INEC said the fake platform was circulating online, falsely claiming that nationwide online voter registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

The Commission said the website has no affiliation with INEC and urged members of the public not to visit the platform or submit personal information through it.

“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a fraudulent website currently circulating online, falsely claiming that INEC has announced a new date for Nationwide Online Voter Registration from 28 September 2026 to 27 October 2026.

“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the website below is FAKE and has no affiliation whatsoever with INEC,” it said.

INEC warned that providing personal details on the fraudulent website could expose users to the risk of having their sensitive data harvested or misused.

The Commission clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, and that any information suggesting that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently being conducted through the website is false.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused.

“The Commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on 26th July 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above mentioned website is false,” it added.

INEC advised Nigerians to verify electoral information through its official communication channels and disregard messages promoting the fraudulent platform.

For enquiries, the Commission provided its call centre number, 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632), short code 4632, phone numbers 090844444333 and 09050858629, and email address [email protected].

The Commission also directed the public to its official website, inecnigeria.org, and news portal, inecnews.com, for verified electoral information.

“INEC urges the public to remain vigilant and to verify all electoral information through the Commission’s official communication channels.”
