Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s wife, Nana Shettima, have urged women to vote for Tinubu and Shettima in the 2027 elections.

They made the call on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Women Campaign Council.

Oluremi Tinubu urged women to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. She also asked women to vote for APC candidates contesting governorship, National Assembly and state assembly seats.

The First Lady announced plans for six zonal mega rallies, with a grand finale in Abuja and said various women support groups had been brought together under the APC Presidential Women Campaign Council. The groups include the Torchbearers, Tinubu Support Group and Tinubu Again.

“What you will see on the ballot is APC. We are here to promote APC, nothing less,” Tinubu said.

She also urged women to promote the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reforms to Prosperity.” Tinubu said the government’s reforms had helped stabilise the economy.

“Our economy is stabilising, inflation is coming down and foreign reserves are growing,” she said.

She also cited student loans through NELFUND and support for farmers among the administration’s programmes.

Meanwhile, Nana Shettima urged women from the six geopolitical zones to return to their communities and mobilise support for the APC. She described the 2027 election as a time to “pay back” President Tinubu.

“Please, 2027 is a payback time,” Nana Shettima said.

She said the Renewed Hope Initiative had provided scholarships and other support to students. She added that the initiative had empowered women and supported elderly people and persons with disabilities across the country.

Also, Olufolake AbdulRazaq, wife of the Kwara State Governor, pledged support for the APC campaign. She said APC women were ready to mobilise voters across the states and the six geopolitical zones.

“We are ready to mobilise and vote APC,” AbdulRazaq said.

The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, said the council was working to unite and mobilise women nationwide. Yari described women as a significant voting bloc before the 2027 elections.

The event brought together APC women leaders and delegates from the 36 states and Abuja. It also featured the inauguration of the APC Presidential Women Campaign Council and a musical performance.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential election for January 16, 2027. Tinubu is seeking re-election, while other political figures are also preparing for the 2027 presidential contest.
