Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have recorded the highest numbers of registered voters in Nigeria as the country prepares for the 2027 general election, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan disclosed the figures in Abuja on Tuesday, saying Nigeria’s voter register now contains more than 103 million eligible voters following three phases of the commission’s registration exercise.
Lagos tops the list with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina ranks fourth with 3,876,051 voters, while Rivers has 3,736,434. Oyo follows with 3,588,111 registered voters, ahead of Delta with 3,525,988. Benue has 3,057,225 voters, Ogun records 3,037,981, while Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547.
At the lower end of the register, Ekiti has the fewest registered voters with 1,055,708, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691. The Federal Capital Territory has 1,732,043 voters, while Yobe and Gombe record 1,733,641 and 1,768,566, respectively.

Amupitan said male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75 per cent of the register, while 49,900,497 registered voters are female. The figures also show that voters aged between 35 and 49 form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 people, representing 41.83 per cent of the register.
Voters aged 18 to 34 account for 29,777,576, or 28.79 per cent, while those between 50 and 69 number 22,982,900, representing 22.22 per cent. Those aged 70 and above form the smallest age group, with 7,402,291 registered voters, or 7.16 per cent.
INEC also recorded 232,658 persons with disabilities across 10 disability categories, representing about 0.2 per cent of registered voters.
Amupitan described Nigeria as Africa’s largest democracy by the size of its registered electorate as preparations continue for the 2027 polls.
