United States (US) President Donald Trump has said the US is having productive discussions with Iran and will not attack the country before November’s midterm elections.
Trump made the statement on Thursday, saying Washington is having productive discussions with Tehran.

He also said the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. However, he added that oil is still moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd,” Trump said.

The statement comes as the war with Iran continues to affect US politics and energy prices. The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran in February. The conflict has reportedly cost the US about $3 billion every month.

Meanwhile, high fuel prices and the war have become key issues for Republican candidates before the midterm elections. Trump has repeatedly said oil prices will fall sharply after the elections.
However, Iran and the US have continued to exchange proposals targeted at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a major route for global oil shipments.
Trump has rejected Tehran’s latest proposal. Recent discussions have focused on ending the conflict and restoring access through the strait. For now, Trump says the US will not launch a new attack on Iran before the November 3 elections, even as discussions between Washington and Tehran continue.
