Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North-West, responded to the assault and forced the attackers to withdraw before they could achieve their objective, the military said.

The fleeing terrorists reportedly abandoned weapons, equipment and other supplies as troops pursued them and conducted exploitation operations in the surrounding area.
According to the military, troops recovered 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device believed to have been used during the attack.
The military said the recovery of the weapons and equipment could weaken the terrorists’ operational capacity in the area.
Following the attack, troops remained in control of the base and surrounding areas, while patrols and clearance operations continued.
The military also said efforts were underway to track the fleeing attackers and prevent them from regrouping.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it would sustain operations aimed at protecting communities and preventing terrorist groups from establishing freedom of movement within its area of responsibility.
