Troops Thwart Suspected Terrorist Attack in Kaduna

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a suspected terrorist attack and recovered an AK-47 rifle during operations in Kaduna State.

The operations were conducted between September 23 and 24 in Kachia Local Government Area, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the JTF North-West Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.

Danja said troops of Sector 1 acted on credible intelligence about suspected terrorists moving through bushes around Rijana in Kachia.

The troops reportedly mobilised to the area, laid an ambush and engaged the suspects after sighting them.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition.

He said, “Following the engagement, troops conducted a follow-up exploitation of the general area, leading to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.” 

Troops also recovered a magazine carrier, a military jungle hat and other items during the operation.

In a separate clearance operation in Awom village on the same day, Sector 1 troops arrested a suspected criminal as they moved to prevent terrorists and other criminal elements from using the community as a safe haven.

The suspect, identified as Jacob, was allegedly found with a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.

He remains in military custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Danja said the Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response during the operations.

He added that the troops would continue offensive and clearance operations to disrupt terrorist activities, restrict the movement of criminal elements and protect communities within the Joint Operations Area.
