The FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi to explain the outcome of an alleged $10 million mosquito fumigation project.
Wike made the challenge during an interview on Tuesday at the FCT Media Chat held in Abuja, where he questioned the project’s impact on malaria prevention and how public funds were used. He asked Amaechi to explain how the fumigation project benefited Rivers State and why similar efforts were not extended to other states.
“Could you tell Nigerians what is the effect of that fumigation? What happened with Rivers State? What happened with other states?” Wike asked.

He argued that a nationwide malaria prevention programme would require a broader approach rather than focusing on one state. He also questioned the reported $10 million payment to a Cuban company for the project.
Wike further raised questions about a proposed 1,000-bed hospital project in Rivers State during Amaechi’s tenure as governor. He alleged that $39 million had been paid as the state’s counterpart funding for the hospital project, which he said involved a Canadian company identified as Lido Tech.

According to Wike, the amount would be worth about ₦53 billion at current exchange rates. He challenged Amaechi to show Nigerians the hospital and clarify whether the project had been completed.
“I know we paid 39 million US dollars. If we convert our money today into Naira, it’s worth 53 billion Naira. Can you show Nigerians where that Caribbean White Hospital is? Is it finished or not?” he asked.
Wike also challenged Nigerians to assess the project’s progress before deciding whether Amaechi deserved their support.
