Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Adamawa State, killing six insurgents and recovering weapons and ammunition.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. Goni said the attack targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area. According to him, the terrorists advanced on foot from the LAR axis and launched the attack at about 9:07 pm.

They reportedly attempted to overrun the military position. However, the troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, forcing the attackers to retreat.

After the attack, troops searched the area and found six terrorist corpses, confirming the deaths of six insurgents. They also recovered one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.

Other items recovered included an Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing. Goni said troops also sustained casualties during the encounter. He added that the wounded personnel were receiving medical attention, while arrangements were being made for their evacuation.

Meanwhile, troops have maintained heightened vigilance and continued searching the surrounding area to prevent further attacks and recover more items of operational importance. Goni said the successful defence of the base showed the troops’ readiness and determination to protect their positions and weaken terrorist operations across the North-East.

“The Theatre Command remains resolute in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations to deny terrorists freedom of action, protect vulnerable communities and consolidate ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the region,” he said.
