The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos has introduced QR codes to help eligible voters locate Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres before the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference at INEC’s headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday, Resident Electoral Commissioner Professor Ayobami Salami urged voters to collect their cards and verify their registration details. He also advised them to rely on official information from the Commission.

The Commission said the codes would be available for scanning on its website and social media platforms. Meanwhile, INEC said preparations for the 2027 general elections were ongoing in Lagos State. The efforts include procuring and testing voter accreditation devices, improving election-result transmission systems and strengthening logistics.

The Commission is also working to recruit and train personnel who will support the elections. INEC has also revised the timetable for the 2027 general elections following the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which changed some statutory timelines for election activities.

Under the revised schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, 16 January 2027. The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on Saturday, 6 February 2027.

The earlier dates were 20 February 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections and 6 March 2027 for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections. INEC said the revised timetable was necessary to align election preparations with the new legal framework.
