Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has announced plans on Thursday to induct five newly acquired Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopters as the Nigerian Government steps up efforts to tackle insecurity.
The helicopters comprise two Airbus H-125 helicopters and three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters. The induction ceremony will take place at the newly reconstructed NAF hangar at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Tinubu is also expected to commission the reconstructed hangar, which will house the helicopters. The NAF received the helicopters as part of the Nigerian Government’s efforts to modernise and equip the Armed Forces to tackle evolving security threats.

According to a statement by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the acquisition reflects the government’s continued investment in strengthening the service’s operational capabilities.
Ejodame said the three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters, manufactured by Italy’s Leonardo Helicopters, arrived in Lagos on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. They were part of a batch of 10 helicopters the Nigerian Government recently acquired. He added that the remaining seven helicopters were expected to arrive before the end of 2026.
The two Airbus H-125 helicopters had been delivered earlier, bringing the total number of helicopters covered by the latest acquisition to five.
