The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal gang linked to several robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and neighbouring communities in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Aboy Promise, 45-year-old Favour Uwalaka and 35-year-old Kingsley.

Another alleged gang member, identified as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, is still at large.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation carried out at about 11:30pm on October 31.

The operation was conducted by a special team set up by the Inspector-General of Police. It included officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

The operation led to the arrest of Promise and Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.

A search reportedly uncovered GH¢1,600 in cash, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.

The police said the two suspects allegedly admitted their involvement in the robberies during interrogation and identified two other suspected members of the gang, Kingsley, also known as KC, and Chinedu, alias Alhaji.

Acting on information provided by the suspects, security operatives later raided another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested.

However, Chinedu remains at large, prompting the police to appeal to members of the public for information that could lead to his arrest.

Giving details of the alleged operations, the police said preliminary investigations showed that the gang monitored banking facilities, identified customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before attacking them.

The suspects were also accused of breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers with a master key to steal cash and other valuables.

The police further disclosed that the arrested suspects allegedly confessed to robbing a bank customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, shortly after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly admitted involvement in similar robberies around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The three suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have advised bank customers to remain vigilant, especially when withdrawing large sums of money, and to watch out for suspicious persons around banking premises.

The Command also warned motorists against leaving cash and other valuables unattended inside their vehicles.

Members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect have been urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ghana Police Service through its emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the Ashanti Region and thanked residents for their continued cooperation.
