Kenya Eases Lockdown, Allows Schools to Reopen

Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta has directed the reopening of schools, restaurants and sporting activities in Kenya.

Kenyatta made the announcement as the East African country marked Labour Day, the second under COVID restrictions.

He announced the lifting of a lockdown that affected five countries considered to be high-risk areas. He also revised the nationwide night-time curfew to commence at 10:00pm local time and not 8:00pm.

Kenyatta however extended a ban on political gatherings indefinitely as he urged Kenyans to continue adhering to the laid down protocols including the mandatory wearing of face masks.

Kenya has now recorded 160,053 COVID-19 infections with 2,744 deaths, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health
