Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, alongside presidents of four countries, on Monday, in Monrovia, attended the official inauguration of Liberian bicentennial commemoration events.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on behalf of President Buhari was received at the Roberts International Airport, Monrovia, by the Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Taylor and Godfrey Odudigbo, Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia.

The event, held at the Samuel Doe Stadium, marks the arrival of the first Free Black Americans in Providence Island in 1822(200 years ago). Liberia is Africa’s oldest republic.

The celebration was themed “Liberian: The Land of Return, Commemoration of 200 Years of Pan-African Freedom and Leadership” and the theme “National Peace and Reconciliation”.

The presidents who attended the ceremony include Faure Gnassingbe from Togo, Julius Bio from Sierra Leone, Adama Barrow from Gambia and Mohammed Bazoum from the Republic of Niger.

The United States, South Africa, Gabon, Ghana, the Secretary-General of the UN, among others had representation at the ceremony.
