The African Action Congress (AAC) has called on security agencies to investigate an alleged attack on its 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and members of his campaign team in Ekiti State.
The party said Sowore’s whereabouts were unknown after the reported incident, which occurred at about 1 pm on Friday, according to Punch.
In a statement issued by Abdulkareem Musa, spokesperson for the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign, the campaign described the development as a major security concern and urged authorities to establish what happened.

We have been brutally attacked and injured by well armed government-sponsored thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The @OfficialDSSNG provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault. We won’t back down! We have a country to liberate!

It called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant agencies to investigate the incident and take steps to protect the candidate.
The campaign also demanded an immediate security review, protective measures and a thorough investigation, warning that authorities should act before the situation escalated into a tragedy.

It condemned violence and intimidation in the political process, insisting that disagreements between political parties should not result in attacks on people exercising their democratic rights.
“We demand an immediate security assessment, appropriate protective measures and a thorough investigation into the incident. The authorities must not wait for a tragedy before taking preventive action,” the statement read.
It added, “Politics and elections are not warfare. No political actor or party has the right to engage violence, intimidation or attacks on citizens exercising their democratic rights.”
The campaign further warned that any harm to Sowore or his team would be unacceptable and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
In a separate post on Sowore’s official X account, the campaign alleged that armed thugs had kidnapped the AAC candidate and that his location was unknown.

Sowore later posted on the same account, accusing individuals from the Ekiti State Government House of carrying out the attack and alleging that they received tracking and operational support from DSS operatives.
This is the level of infamy to which Nigeria has been subjected! Those who brutally attacked us in Ado-Ekiti today came from the Government House @ekitistategov. They are well known, and they were provided with tracking and operational support by the @OfficialDSSNG.
Since our arrival yesterday, DSS operatives have been trailing and harassing us. They even threatened the manager of the first place where we ate, warning him never to allow us to use his premises again.
Today, shortly after I completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti, the thugs descended on us in a violent attack, allegedly with the assistance of the DSS. #RevolutionNow

He claimed that DSS personnel had followed and harassed his team since their arrival in the state on Thursday.
Sowore also alleged that the operatives threatened the manager of a restaurant where his team had eaten, warning him against allowing them to use the premises again.
According to the AAC candidate, the attack occurred shortly after he completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

He further accused the DSS of assisting the attackers.
Sowore, who is seeking the presidency in 2027 on the AAC platform, was in Ekiti State for campaign activities on Thursday.
His lawyer had attributed his absence from proceedings at the High Court in Abuja on Thursday to his campaign engagements in the state. The court subsequently adjourned his cyberbullying trial until November.
