The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned six-hour power outage in several communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday to allow for annual preventive maintenance at its Kubwa 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

In a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the maintenance exercise would take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The TCN noted that the purpose of the exercise is to maintain the reliability of the substation’s power infrastructure.

“This exercise will enable TCN maintenance crew carry out annual preventive maintenance on one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformer (TR2) and its associated switchgears,” the statement read.

Mbah said the planned work would temporarily prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from receiving bulk power supply for distribution to customers in the affected areas.

“As a result, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to its customers in Dutse Bupma, Ushafa, Jigo, Peyi, Pambara, Kogo, Veritas University, Bwari Dutse, Army Estate, Berger Camp, FHA, FCDA, Karatana Village, Aso Garden, Papas Ground and its environs,” the company stated.

The transmission company apologised to residents and businesses likely to be affected by the temporary disruption.

Annual preventive maintenance is routinely carried out on transmission infrastructure to inspect, service and replace worn components before faults develop.

TCN says such maintenance is intended to improve the reliability and stability of the national grid, although it often requires temporary power interruptions in affected locations.
