The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the revised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for the 2027 elections, labelling it a “rigged and corrupt system.”
In a statement issued on Friday, February 27, 2026, the party alleged that the schedule contains “boobytraps” specifically engineered to exclude opposition candidates from the upcoming contest.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the current electoral framework creates an unfair playing field by allowing the ruling party to exploit its incumbency.
The ADC argues that the system grants one party a one-year head start on critical requirements, while other political organisations only became aware of them when it was nearly too late.
Consequently, the party has joined a coalition of opposition parties in rejecting both the INEC timetable and the Electoral Act 2026.
The party maintains that these combined measures appear strategically designed to serve a “self-succession project” for President Tinubu rather than ensuring a fair democratic competition.

In its statement, the ADC emphasised that it will not engage in any activities that might provide legitimacy to what it considers a fraudulent system.
The party is currently reviewing its legal and political options and expects to make its final decision known in the coming days. They warned that no democracy can survive if the governing rules are manipulated to guarantee pre-determined outcomes for those already in power.
The party concluded by calling upon civil society, democratic stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to scrutinise the new timetable and demand systemic fairness.
The ADC seeks to protect the integrity of the 2027 electoral process and ensure that administrative barriers do not silence the Nigerian people’s voices by urging a cross-party effort to challenge these rules.
