Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that the club has opened talks over Alejandro Garnacho’s future, with several teams showing interest in signing the Argentine winger.
Speaking at his first press conference as Chelsea boss, Alonso said Garnacho’s situation was being discussed with the club’s sporting directors and that they hoped to reach the best outcome for all parties.
“The situation is we have spoken with the sports directors, and there’s an interest in him from other clubs. So let’s see how it develops, but hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for all parties,” Alonso said.
Garnacho has not returned to first-team training after agreeing with Chelsea to stay away from the squad while he looks for his next move.
The winger has attracted interest from several clubs, including Italian sides Roma, Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan. Chelsea, however, is reportedly looking for a permanent transfer rather than another loan deal.

Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer in a reported £40 million move but struggled during his first season at Stamford Bridge. He scored only one Premier League goal as Chelsea finished 10th and missed out on European football. His difficult club campaign also contributed to his omission from Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Manchester United could also receive financial benefits from any future sale, having secured a 10 per cent sell-on clause when Garnacho left Old Trafford.
Alonso, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager, has begun a major squad rebuild and says the club is focused on returning to European competition.
“We are starting from zero,” Alonso said.
“For sure, returning to Europe is a goal. But to reach that goal, you need to do many right things. We are ambitious and we need to show that energy, ambition and hunger to achieve success.”
Chelsea are expected to continue discussions with interested clubs as they look to resolve Garnacho’s future before the 2026/27 season.
