Teachers in Borno State have expressed deep concern over the abduction of pupils from Musa Central Primary School in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.

The educators said about 48 learners were abducted, describing the incident as painful and traumatic for teachers, parents and the entire community.

Speaking at a solidarity gathering on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of NUT Nigeria, Yusuf Tom, said the incident has left the education sector in distress.

“Today we are crying, today we are bleeding in our hearts,” Tom said.

The teachers said the situation has denied children their fundamental right to education and raised fears among parents about sending their wards to school.

“Our learners, our parents, our villagers are crying,” he added.

They appealed to the Nigerian Government to take urgent action and rescue the abducted pupils.

“We are appealing to the government of the day… to come out in mass to see how best they will go to Musa and rescue our learners,” Tom said.

The teachers warned that the incident poses a serious threat to education in Nigeria, as many parents may become afraid to send their children to school.

“This is a great danger to education in Nigeria,” the NUT secretary said.

They urged security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to secure schools and restore confidence in the education system.
