At least 15 people have been killed in a road accident in north-eastern Brazil after a bus driver travelling the wrong way lost control of the vehicle, police reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred late on Friday in Pernambuco State and involved a bus carrying 30 passengers.
Police explained that the driver struck rocks along the roadside, corrected his course, but soon crashed into an embankment, causing the bus to overturn.
Among the dead were eleven women and four men. The total number of injured passengers has yet to be confirmed.
The driver suffered only minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol, according to police. He has been taken into custody for further questioning.
Authorities also stated that several passengers were thrown from the bus due to the impact of the crash.
