Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick revealed that he expects his future at the club to be resolved this week, following widespread reports that he is set to sign a permanent two-year contract.

The announcement came immediately after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a result that successfully clinched a third-place finish in the Premier League for the Red Devils.

The former United and England midfielder is widely expected to be rewarded with the full-time position due to his immense tactical impact since taking the reins in January.

Reflecting on the situation, Carrick emphasised that the priority on Sunday was securing the right result and honouring the players’ individual efforts rather than discussing his contract.

However, he assured reporters that definitive news regarding his status would be made public within the coming days.

In an end-of-season address to the Old Trafford crowd after the final whistle, Carrick strongly hinted at his continuation with the club, praising the massive goals and memorable results achieved over the last few months and expressing his hope for many more to come.

Carrick’s short tenure has been highly successful, with the manager winning 11 of his 16 matches in charge to revitalise a struggling squad.

This impressive run of form ensured that Manchester United successfully secured a return to Europe’s elite Champions League competition following a painful two-year absence.

With the principal objective achieved, the club’s leadership is now poised to formalise Carrick’s position and begin preparations for the upcoming European campaign.
