English Premier League side Manchester United have reached an agreement with former midfielder Michael Carrick to become the club’s permanent head coach, marking a major return for one of the most respected figures associated with the team’s modern era.
According to reports, Carrick is set to sign an initial two-year contract, with the option of an additional 12 months, as the club moves to usher in a new chapter following months of uncertainty around the managerial position. An official announcement is expected within the next 48 hours.

The development represents a significant moment for both Carrick and Manchester United. Having previously served as assistant coach at the club before taking charge of Championship side Middlesbrough, Carrick has steadily built a reputation as one of England’s promising young managers.
His calm leadership style, tactical discipline, and understanding of the club’s identity are believed to have played a major role in United’s decision.
Carrick’s relationship with Manchester United stretches back more than a decade. As a player, he won multiple Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup during one of the club’s most successful periods under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He also briefly managed the side on an interim basis in 2021, overseeing important matches before departing to pursue his own managerial career.
